CHALLENGE: Write a Short in 10 Hours!

January 8, 2022. Start at 9:00 AM (Warsaw Time).

Traditionally, as every year, we organise the challenge “Write a shorts in 10 hours”.

We created it for all those who want to spend the first days of New Year in a creative way, and for those who want to have the resolution of writing a screenplay this year ticked off quickly on their 2022-to-do-list.
Everyone who has been taking part in these challenges in the past five years knows that this challenge works – it’s fun, it’s quick and it is verrrry effective.
So… If you want to write a screenplay, but… you lack TIME, CRAFT or MOTIVATION, Agnieszka Kruk, the world champion in giving wings to screenwriting talents, will be happy to support you in this struggle.

Let’s address these basic struggles of screenwriters.

– TIME –

Instead of trying to write for weeks, turning thousands of brilliant ideas in your head and then struggling with writing and doubts for weeks afterwards, you can take ONE day and go through the whole process of writing a script in just ten hours.

This will keep you focused on getting the job done and effectively turn your inner critic off.

You’ll get everything you need to turn that nagging creature off.

– SKILLS –

While it’s easy to see what a finished script looks like, not everyone knows that scriptwriting doesn’t start with putting first scene’s headline on the page. To start writing a screenplay, it’s good to decide how you want to tell your story and what it really is about.

In this 10-hour challenge, you’ll go step-by-step through the whole process of professional script development – from determining the basics, through selecting and creating characters, shaping the story, to writing and editing the first draft of the script.

– MOTIVATION –

Procrastination the professional disease of screenwriters – you know it, right? Of course. It’s very easy to devote ourselves to other things instead of writing. Especially when we lack the right motivation to write.

This time we’re switching off procrastination because… there won’t be time for it! Checkmate. You are given a specific time for specific tasks, you are given guidance and support from an extremely effective mentor, you are given a clear goal. Under such circumstances, there is no other option but to write.

HOW DOES THE CHALLENGE WORK?

The challenge takes place entirely online. You can write a script without leaving your home or being distracted by social coffee breaks.

Everyone who signs up for the challenge will get an invitation to a secret group on FB.

On the day of the challenge, the first live broadcast will start at 9:00 am Central European Time, where you will learn how to get started, get clear instructions and answers to any questions you may have. There will also be the first downloadable handout in the group, which will make it even easier to complete the first task in the time slot.

For the first five hours there will be a live broadcast every hour, you will receive further tips and new handouts to download. When we reach the beat outline stage, you will get five hours to write your script.

At 18:00, during the penultimate broadcast, you will get tips on how to easily become your own script-doctor, i.e. what to look for when editing your first draft of a script.

At 19:00 we’ll end the challenge with a final broadcast, and those who complete the work will open champagne, chocolates or unlock Internet access as a reward.

WHY WRITE SHORTS?

There are several reasons.

Firstly, going through the whole writing process is easiest to learn on shorts. This allows you to see immediately how your ideas translate into a script and get a feel for how much time each stage of writing takes you. This will help you estimate more precisely the time realistically needed to write a longer screenplay.

Secondly, shorts are easier to produce. This opens up the possibility of working with independent artists or film directing students who are looking for interesting screenplays for their shorts. Thanks to such cooperation, we can see a film based on our script quite quickly, and this already begins to build our portfolio. Especially when such a film will be shown at festivals.

Thirdly, because it is a cool exercise, and all scriptwriters should take care of their screenwriting muscles. Unused muscles disappear.
